Balloon catheter aims to supercharge CPR and save more lives
NCT ID NCT06793033
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new device called NEURESCUE, a balloon catheter inserted into the leg artery that inflates to redirect blood to the heart and brain during cardiac arrest. Researchers will compare standard CPR plus the device against CPR alone in 84 adults with witnessed cardiac arrest and non-shockable heart rhythms. The goal is to see if the device helps restore a shockable rhythm or return of spontaneous circulation safely.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
NEURESCUE catheter (aortic balloon occlusion device)
What this could lead to
If it works, this device could help more people survive cardiac arrest by quickly redirecting blood to the heart and brain during CPR.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial (84 people) testing safety and feasibility. The device is invasive and may cause complications like vessel damage or bleeding. Success in this study does not guarantee broader effectiveness.
