Nanoparticles could supercharge radiation against returning lung tumors
NCT ID NCT04505267
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This early-phase trial tests whether adding NBTXR3 nanoparticles to radiation therapy can safely treat inoperable non-small cell lung cancer that has come back after prior radiation. The nanoparticles are designed to concentrate radiation energy inside tumor cells, potentially killing them more effectively while sparing healthy tissue. About 34 participants will receive the combination to find the best dose and check for side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
NBTXR3 nanoparticles (a radio-enhancer) plus radiation therapy
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for people with inoperable recurrent lung cancer by making radiation more effective against tumors.
What could go wrong
This is a very early (Phase 1) trial with only 34 participants, so safety and dosing are still being figured out. It may not work as hoped or could cause unexpected side effects.
