Virtual reality could teach CPR just as well as a human instructor
NCT ID NCT07363772
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a mixed reality (MR) system called HEROS 4.0 can teach CPR as effectively as traditional instructor-led classes. 120 adults who haven't had CPR training in the last year will be split into two groups: one using MR and one using standard video and in-person instruction. Their CPR skills will be measured right after training and again 6 months later to see how well they remember what they learned.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Mixed reality (MR) CPR training system (HEROS 4.0)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that MR training is a scalable, accessible alternative to instructor-led CPR classes, potentially increasing the number of people trained.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (120 people) comparing training methods, not a treatment. It may not prove MR is better or that skills are retained long-term. Some people may not tolerate the MR equipment.
