Tiny brain probe aims to spy on seizures
NCT ID NCT05335187
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a special electrode that can record the activity of individual brain cells during epileptic seizures. Thirty adults with drug-resistant epilepsy who already need brain monitoring for surgery will have these electrodes implanted for a few weeks. The main goal is to see if the device is safe and can capture clear signals from single neurons.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
micro-macro electrode implantation
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help researchers better understand how seizures start and spread in the brain, potentially guiding future treatments.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage safety study with only 30 participants. The device may cause side effects or fail to record enough neurons, and the findings may not lead to direct patient benefits.
