Rehearsal and sleep: unlocking memory secrets in epilepsy

NCT ID NCT06967935

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study investigates how rehearsal (repeating information) and sleep help solidify memories in people with epilepsy. Participants learn object-location pairs, with some pairs rehearsed and others not, and their memory is tested after a short delay and again after 12 hours—either awake or asleep. The goal is to understand how these processes work together, especially in epilepsy where memory issues are common. This research may pave the way for better memory support strategies.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could reveal how rehearsal and sleep help memory in epilepsy, potentially guiding future therapies for memory problems.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase observational study with only 20 participants, so findings may not apply broadly. The results are preliminary and may not lead to direct treatments.
