New triple-drug attack aims to revive immune response in hard-to-treat melanoma
NCT ID NCT04562129
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether combining high-dose interleukin-2 with low-dose ipilimumab, followed by nivolumab, can shrink tumors in people with advanced melanoma that has stopped responding to prior immunotherapy. About 29 participants with inoperable stage III or IV melanoma will receive the drug combination over 12-week courses. The main goal is to see how many patients experience tumor shrinkage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Interleukin-2 (aldesleukin), ipilimumab, and nivolumab
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for people with advanced melanoma that no longer responds to standard immunotherapy.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 29 participants, so results may not apply widely. The combination of drugs can cause severe side effects, including immune system overactivation.
