First seen May 28, 2026 · Last updated Jun 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a Mediterranean diet and weight loss can lower the risk of colorectal cancer in obese African American adults aged 45-75. Participants followed either a Mediterranean diet, a weight loss program, both, or no change for 6 months. Researchers measured changes in bile acids, gut bacteria, and gene activity in the colon to see if these factors could reduce cancer risk.
