First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study tested whether providing free, healthy meals and phone-based lifestyle coaching for 6 months can improve blood sugar levels and reduce food insecurity in adults with type 2 diabetes who have trouble affording food. 215 participants were randomly assigned to receive either the meal program or usual care plus a small monthly food subsidy. The main goal was to see if the meal program lowered hemoglobin A1c (a key diabetes marker) after 6 months.
