New gel aims to heal stubborn leg ulcers
NCT ID NCT07463365
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a gel called LUT017 on chronic wounds like venous leg ulcers. The gel is applied once a week for up to 8 weeks to see if it's safe and might help wounds heal. About 12 to 18 adults with a leg wound that hasn't healed for at least 4 weeks will take part. The study first checks if standard bandages alone work, then treats eligible participants with the gel.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
LUT017 gel (a topical BRAF inhibitor)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment for chronic wounds like venous leg ulcers that are hard to heal.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 18 people, so it's mainly checking safety. The gel may not help wounds heal, and side effects are possible.
