Ultrasound-Guided fluid removal could shorten time on ventilators

NCT ID NCT05188092

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether using lung ultrasound to guide removal of extra fluid helps patients on breathing machines in the ICU breathe on their own sooner. About 1,000 adults who need a ventilator for at least another day will be randomly assigned to have fluid removal guided by ultrasound or by usual care. The goal is to see if ultrasound guidance leads to more days alive and off the ventilator within 28 days.
