Ultrasound-Guided fluid removal could shorten ventilator time for ICU patients

NCT ID NCT05188092

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tests whether using lung ultrasound to guide the removal of extra fluid helps patients on breathing machines in the ICU get off the ventilator sooner. About 1,000 adults who are expected to need a ventilator for more than 24 hours will be randomly assigned to either ultrasound-guided fluid removal or standard care. The goal is to see if this simple, safe imaging tool can improve recovery and reduce time on the ventilator.
