New heart pacing strategy could cut defibrillator need
NCT ID NCT05572957
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a special heart pacing technique (left bundle branch pacing) combined with standard heart failure drugs can improve heart function better than drugs alone. It includes 50 adults with non-ischemic heart failure and a specific heart block. The main goal is to see if this combination reduces the number of patients who need a defibrillator implant.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
left bundle branch pacing (a heart pacing procedure) combined with guideline-directed medical therapy (a set of heart failure drugs)
What this could lead to
If it works, this approach could reduce the need for implantable defibrillators in heart failure patients, offering a less invasive option.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The pacing procedure also carries risks like infection or lead displacement.
