Iron deficiency may trigger dangerous heart rhythms in heart failure patients
NCT ID NCT07277140
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study looks at 300 adults hospitalized with heart failure to see if iron deficiency (with or without anemia) is linked to abnormal heart rhythms or ECG changes. Researchers will measure iron levels and monitor for arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia during the hospital stay. The goal is to find simple markers that could help identify high-risk patients, especially where advanced iron treatments are not easily available.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors identify heart failure patients at higher risk for dangerous heart rhythm problems based on simple iron tests.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will only show links, not prove cause and effect, and results may not apply to all heart failure patients.
