Fiber fix? inulin may supercharge GLP-1 Weight-Loss drugs for heart health
NCT ID NCT07611552
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether taking inulin, a type of dietary fiber, can improve cholesterol and other heart-related risk factors in 600 overweight or obese adults who are already using GLP-1 medications (like semaglutide) for weight loss. Participants will take either 10 grams of inulin or a placebo daily for 4 months. The goal is to see if adding this simple supplement can make these popular weight-loss drugs even better for long-term heart health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
inulin (a type of dietary fiber/prebiotic)
What this could lead to
If it works, adding inulin to GLP-1 medications could improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels, making weight-loss treatments better for heart health.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage supplement study, not a drug trial. The effect may be small or not noticeable, and gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhea or constipation are possible.
