Could a pill every other day be just as good for prostate symptoms?

NCT ID NCT07308002

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares taking tamsulosin every day versus every other day in 288 men aged 40 and older with enlarged prostate and moderate-to-severe urinary symptoms. The goal is to see if the every-other-day schedule controls symptoms just as well while possibly causing fewer sexual side effects. Participants will be followed for 24 weeks, and the main measure is change in urinary symptom scores.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
tamsulosin
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer men with enlarged prostate a simpler, every-other-day dosing option that controls urinary symptoms just as well as daily pills, with fewer sexual side effects.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 4 trial, but it hasn't started yet. The every-other-day regimen might not control symptoms as well as daily dosing, and results may not apply to all men with BPH.
