This study tests whether a daily capsule of potassium nitrate (KNO3) can improve leg muscle power and overall exercise capacity in people with heart failure. 75 adults with reduced heart function will take either KNO3 or a placebo for 6 weeks. What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- potassium nitrate (KNO3)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, daily supplement to help people with heart failure exercise more easily and feel better.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early phase 2 trial with only 75 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The supplement might not improve exercise or could cause side effects like stomach upset.
