Tiny heart monitor tracks dangerous rhythms in cancer patients

NCT ID NCT05643235

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study is for people starting a type of cancer drug called BTK inhibitors, which can sometimes cause irregular heartbeats. Researchers will implant a small heart monitor under the skin to watch for these heart rhythm problems continuously for up to 5 years. The goal is to learn how often these problems happen and how best to manage them. About 50 participants will be enrolled.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Medtronic LINQ-2 Insertable Cardiac Monitor (ILR)

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could show that continuous heart monitoring helps catch and manage irregular heartbeats early in patients taking BTK inhibitors, potentially preventing serious complications.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study (50 participants) with no control group. It is designed to gather data, not to test a treatment, so it may not lead to direct changes in care. The device itself carries minor risks like infection or discomfort.
