Hybrid heart fix for stubborn AF shows promise but study stalls

NCT ID NCT03737929

First seen Jun 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026

Summary

This study aimed to see if a hybrid approach—combining minimally invasive heart surgery with standard catheter ablation—works better than catheter ablation alone for people with persistent atrial fibrillation (a type of irregular heartbeat). The trial planned to enroll many participants but was stopped early after only 7 people joined. Because it ended early, we cannot draw strong conclusions about which treatment is better.
