Smart blood pressure cuff could spot hidden heart rhythm problem

NCT ID NCT07582523

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing whether a special home blood pressure monitor that can detect atrial fibrillation (AFib) helps diagnose the condition faster in older adults with high blood pressure. About 1,900 participants aged 60 and older will take daily blood pressure readings and answer app surveys. Some will use a standard monitor, others a monitor with AFib detection, and researchers will compare how quickly AFib is found.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Blood pressure monitor with AFib detection technology

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple, at-home way to catch atrial fibrillation earlier in people with high blood pressure, potentially reducing stroke risk.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage screening study, not a treatment trial. The device may not reliably detect AFib, and earlier diagnosis may not translate into better health outcomes.
