HIIT bikes may boost brain power in breast cancer patients on chemo

NCT ID NCT04724499

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a 16-week high-intensity interval training (HIIT) program on a stationary bike can improve thinking, memory, and heart health in women undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer. Thirty participants will be randomly assigned to either HIIT or a stretching program. Researchers will measure brain function with tests and brain scans, as well as heart fitness.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on a stationary bike

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple exercise program to help breast cancer patients stay sharp during chemotherapy.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The exercise program is demanding, and some patients may find it too hard to complete.
