Spinning away fat: new method may fix blood test for anticoagulants

NCT ID NCT07200674

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 27 times

Summary

This study looks at whether high-speed centrifugation can remove excess fat from blood samples so that a key test (anti-Xa activity) works correctly. The test is used to monitor blood thinners, but fatty samples can give wrong results. Researchers will add fat to routine blood samples and then spin them very fast to see if the fat separates without affecting the test. About 150 adults on blood thinners will participate.
