Simple leg exercises may tighten loose knees in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome
NCT ID NCT07626957
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-week program of hamstring strengthening exercises can reduce knee looseness and pain in people with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) or hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD). Twenty participants will attend two supervised exercise classes per week and undergo regular knee testing. The goal is to see if this type of exercise is both feasible and effective for improving joint stability.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Progressive resistance exercise focusing on eccentric hamstring loading
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple exercise program to improve knee stability and reduce pain for people with HSD/hEDS.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It also excludes people with daily knee pain or prior knee injuries, limiting who can benefit.
