Could a laser beam ease the pain of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome?

NCT ID NCT07637084

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a special laser (MLS class IV) can reduce chronic pain and fatigue in people with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS), a condition that causes loose joints and widespread pain. Twenty-five adults will receive 10 laser sessions over 5 weeks, with pain and fatigue measured before, right after, and 5 weeks later. It's a small early study to see if this light therapy is worth exploring further.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

MLS class IV laser photobiomodulation (red and near-infrared light)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a non-drug option to ease chronic pain and fatigue in people with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 25 people and no comparison group, so results may not be reliable or apply to everyone. It's too early to know if the benefits last or are meaningful.
