Gut bacteria could hold key to treating resistant epilepsy

NCT ID NCT07010445

First seen Apr 19, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at how the bacteria in your gut might affect epilepsy that doesn't get better with standard medicines. Researchers will follow 120 people aged 3 to 50 who have drug-resistant epilepsy and are starting a new treatment like surgery or a special diet. By tracking changes in gut bacteria and seizure control over a year, they hope to find clues that could help doctors choose the best treatment for each person.
