Blood sugar swings after a heart attack may reveal hidden dangers
NCT ID NCT06014112
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study investigates whether blood sugar patterns, measured continuously with a wearable sensor, can predict serious heart problems in the year following a heart attack. Researchers will enroll 850 people hospitalized with acute coronary syndrome and track their glucose levels for up to two weeks. The goal is to see if glucose variability—not just a single blood sugar reading—offers a better warning of future heart attacks, strokes, or heart failure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Freestyle Libre Pro iQ continuous glucose monitor
- What this could lead to
- If blood sugar patterns measured by this device predict future heart problems, doctors could use it to identify high-risk patients and tailor follow-up care.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may find no strong link between glucose patterns and heart events, or the device may not be practical for routine use.
