Could a diabetes drug boost chemo for tough cancers?

NCT ID NCT07627191

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase trial will test whether adding semaglutide (a GLP-1 drug used for diabetes and weight loss) to standard chemotherapy is safe and tolerable for people with metastatic pancreatic, colorectal, or liver cancer. About 30 participants will receive weekly semaglutide injections alongside their first-line chemo. The main goal is to check for serious side effects and see if patients can complete their planned chemo without dose changes.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

semaglutide (GLP-1 receptor agonist)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that adding semaglutide to standard chemotherapy is safe and tolerable, potentially improving treatment outcomes for these cancers.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial (30 people) that hasn't started yet. It only tests safety and tolerability, not whether it actually helps fight cancer. Side effects from semaglutide or interactions with chemo are possible.
