Tiny brain signals may guide better seizure surgery

NCT ID NCT06105645

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether measuring a specific type of brain wave called 'fast-ripples' can help surgeons do a better job treating drug-resistant epilepsy. About 440 patients will have brain monitoring with special electrodes before surgery. Half will have fast-ripple information used to plan their surgery, and half will not. The goal is to see if the fast-ripple group has fewer seizures one year after the operation.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

DIXI Medical Microdeep® Micro-Macro Depth electrodes

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that using fast-ripple information helps surgeons better identify and remove the seizure-causing brain tissue, leading to more patients being seizure-free after surgery.

What could go wrong

This is an early exploratory study, not a randomized trial. The benefit of fast-ripples is not yet proven, and the results may not apply to all epilepsy patients. There are also standard surgical risks like infection or bleeding.
