New program aims to ease depression and substance use in native communities

Summary

This study tests a program called Family Spirit Strengths to help American Indian and Alaska Native mothers and caregivers manage depression, anxiety, and substance use. About 188 pregnant women or caregivers of young children who have mental health symptoms will take part. Half will get the skills program, and the other half will get a nutrition education program. The goal is to see if the program improves mental health days and reduces substance use.
