Could taurine and Low-Oxygen recovery boost exercise benefits for obesity?
NCT ID NCT06579508
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether combining high-intensity interval training with recovery in low oxygen (hypoxia) and taurine supplements can improve body composition, metabolism, and mitochondrial function in women with obesity. Fifty women aged 25–45 with a BMI of 30–35 will exercise on a stationary bike and take either taurine or a placebo for 12 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in weight, fat mass, cholesterol, and muscle cell energy production.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
taurine
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a more effective exercise-plus-supplement strategy for managing obesity and related metabolic issues.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (50 women) with no blinding for the exercise component, so results may not apply broadly. Taurine and hypoxia effects are still uncertain.
