New endoscopic combo procedure aims to tackle obesity without surgery
NCT ID NCT07612527
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This Phase 2 trial tests a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure for weight loss in 10 adults with obesity (BMI 30-40, or 27-29.9 with related health issues). The procedure combines two techniques: one to reduce appetite by ablating part of the stomach lining, and another to slow digestion by cutting a muscle in the stomach. The goal is to achieve significant weight loss without the need for surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Endoscopic procedure (gastric fundal mucosal ablation and bariatric endoscopic antral myotomy)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a less invasive, lower-cost alternative to surgery for weight loss in people with obesity.
What could go wrong
This is a very small early-phase trial with only 10 participants, so results may not apply widely. The procedure is new and its long-term safety and effectiveness are unknown.
