New ECT study aims to improve seizure monitoring and patient comfort
NCT ID NCT07534475
First seen May 07, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026
Summary
This study will test a new way to monitor muscle activity during electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) for people with depression, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia. It compares a standard tourniquet method with a newer one that uses a low dose of a muscle relaxant. The goal is to see which method is better at showing seizure activity and causes less pain. Twenty adults will take part, and each will receive both methods at the same time for comparison.
