First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study follows 1,500 pregnant women and their children for up to 18 years to understand how a mother's health, lifestyle, and environment affect her child's growth and risk for obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver. Mothers attend visits during pregnancy and after birth, while children are monitored from infancy through age 18. The goal is to identify early factors that could lead to better prevention strategies.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could reveal early-life factors that predict obesity, diabetes, and fatty liver, pointing to ways to prevent these conditions.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It will not test any intervention, and results may take many years to emerge.
