Virtual heart twin could predict who needs a defibrillator
NCT ID NCT07527494
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study will create a digital twin of the heart for 1,000 people who have had a heart attack. The goal is to see if this computer model can better predict who is at risk for sudden cardiac death compared to the current standard method. Participants will undergo a cardiac CT scan and a heart stimulation test. The researchers hope to improve decisions about who needs an implantable defibrillator.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could lead to a more accurate way to predict who needs a defibrillator after a heart attack, potentially saving lives and avoiding unnecessary implants.
- What could go wrong
- This is an early pilot study, not a treatment trial. The model may not prove accurate enough to change current practice, and results may not apply to all patients.
