Shocking weight loss? new study tests electric muscle stimulation plus diet
NCT ID NCT07562724
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will test whether adding whole-body electrical muscle stimulation (EMS) to a reduced-calorie diet helps people with obesity lose weight and improve metabolic health. Forty adults will be randomly assigned to either diet alone or diet plus EMS for 8 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in blood markers related to metabolism and appetite.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Whole-body electromyostimulation (WB-EMS) plus an energy-restricted diet
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a more effective, time-efficient way to lose weight and improve metabolic health in people with obesity.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants and no blinding, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is short (8 weeks) and long-term effects are unknown.
