No more poking? AI and saliva tests aim to spot gum disease faster

NCT ID NCT07406867

First seen Feb 14, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study is testing whether simpler, less invasive methods like taking mouth photos, X-rays, and analyzing spit and plaque samples can accurately detect gum disease. Researchers will compare these methods to the standard full-mouth dental exam. The goal is to find a faster, easier way to diagnose gum problems, potentially allowing for earlier treatment. About 2,000 adults who need dental care will participate across five centers.
