This study looks at how gum disease, from mild gingivitis to more severe periodontitis, changes the activity of certain genes and proteins involved in inflammation and cellular cleanup. Researchers will collect small gum tissue samples from people with healthy gums, gingivitis, or periodontitis during routine dental procedures. They will measure the levels of GFI1, NF-κB, NLRP3, and IL-1beta in these samples. In a separate lab experiment, gum cells will be exposed to a bacterial substance to see how these same genes and proteins respond.
