Freezing away knee pain: new study tests cryoablation after replacement surgery

NCT ID NCT06991231

First seen May 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 17, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tests whether freezing certain nerves (cryoablation) during total knee replacement surgery can reduce pain and the need for opioid painkillers afterward. About 215 adults scheduled for knee replacement will be randomly assigned to receive either standard surgery or surgery plus cryoablation. Researchers will track pain levels, knee function, and opioid use for several months after the procedure.
