First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study compares cranberry tablets to the antibiotic nitrofurantoin for preventing urinary tract infections (UTIs) after gynecologic surgery. About 142 women having surgery for pelvic organ prolapse or urinary incontinence will be randomly assigned to take either cranberry or nitrofurantoin for a short time after surgery. The goal is to see if cranberry works as well as the antibiotic at preventing UTIs within 4 weeks after surgery.
