Can a Blood-Derived injection strengthen pelvic floor repair?

NCT ID NCT07746739

First seen Aug 05, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This trial tests whether adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to standard surgery for pelvic organ prolapse improves pelvic floor muscle strength and reduces the chance of prolapse returning. Forty women with stage II or higher prolapse will be randomly assigned to receive either PRP or a placebo injection during their operation. Pelvic floor strength and prolapse severity will be measured before surgery and eight weeks after.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection during pelvic organ prolapse surgery
What this could lead to
If effective, PRP could become a standard addition to prolapse surgery, improving pelvic floor strength and lowering the chance of prolapse returning.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 women, so results may not apply broadly. PRP is generally safe but may cause injection-site discomfort or infection.
