Could a simple CO2 test save lives in septic shock?
NCT ID NCT07179276
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares two methods for guiding early treatment in people with septic shock, a severe infection that can cause organ failure. The standard approach uses blood lactate levels, but this trial tests whether using the CO2 gap (a measure of blood flow) is better at reducing deaths. About 750 adults in intensive care will take part, and the main goal is to see if more people survive at 28 days.
