Massive brain chart project aims to spot Alzheimer's and MS earlier
NCT ID NCT06643858
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study will collect brain scans from over 10,000 healthy people in China to create standard brain charts. These charts will show what a normal brain looks like at different ages. Doctors can then compare a patient's brain scan to these charts to help diagnose diseases like multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's, and stroke earlier and more accurately. The goal is to make diagnosis more personalized and improve treatment decisions.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide doctors with a tool to diagnose brain diseases earlier and tailor treatments to each patient.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. The brain charts may not be accurate for everyone, and it will take time to prove they improve diagnosis.
