Fitbit and coaching boost activity in knee pain study
NCT ID NCT06734052
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a health coaching program (called CAPPA) combined with a Fitbit could help employees with chronic knee pain become more physically active. Thirty-nine participants were split into two groups: one received physical activity coaching, the other received general health education. The main goal was to see if more people in the coaching group reached 150 minutes of weekly moderate-to-vigorous activity. Researchers also used Fitbit data from the first four weeks to predict who might not improve.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
health coaching plus Fitbit
What this could lead to
If successful, this approach could offer a simple, low-cost way to help people with chronic knee pain become more active and manage their symptoms.
What could go wrong
This was a small, early-stage study with only 39 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is behavioral, so individual motivation and adherence vary widely.
