Exercise after breast cancer: a new prescription for survival?
NCT ID NCT05957068
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 24-week exercise program combining brisk walking and strength training can improve survival in women with early-stage breast cancer. Over 2,000 participants will be enrolled within 8 weeks of finishing surgery or chemotherapy. The program starts with in-person sessions and continues with remote or gym-based training. Researchers will track cancer recurrence and overall survival.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Exercise programme (aerobic exercise and strength training)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that regular exercise after breast cancer treatment helps reduce the risk of cancer returning and improves overall survival.
What could go wrong
This is a behavioral intervention, not a drug, so results may vary widely. The study is large but still observational in nature regarding survival outcomes, and exercise adherence may be challenging for some participants.
