NCT ID NCT05359887

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study uses PET scans to look at the brain's reward system in 30 people who had bariatric surgery 2-3 years ago. Researchers want to see if differences in dopamine receptors explain why some patients lose more weight than others. Participants will have brain scans before and after a liquid meal to measure these changes.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could help explain why some people lose more weight after bariatric surgery, potentially leading to better support or treatments for those who struggle.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study with only 30 participants. It does not test a new treatment, so it may not lead to direct changes in care.
