Stomach 'EKG' could spot hidden gut problems

NCT ID NCT05812339

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study is testing a new device called Gastric Alimetry that records the stomach's electrical activity through electrodes placed on the belly. Researchers want to see if it can reliably detect abnormal stomach rhythms in people with conditions like gastroparesis and functional dyspepsia. 200 adults (both healthy and with stomach symptoms) will wear the device for 4 hours after a meal. The goal is to validate the device as a diagnostic tool, not to treat any condition.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Gastric Alimetry System (a device with electrodes placed on the abdomen to record stomach electrical activity)
What this could lead to
If successful, this device could become a new, non-invasive tool to help doctors diagnose stomach motility problems more accurately.
What could go wrong
This is an early observational study to validate the device, not a treatment trial. It may not lead to a widely available diagnostic test, and skin irritation from the electrodes is possible.
