Heart clot showdown: newer blood thinner may beat old standard

NCT ID NCT05825573

First seen Feb 17, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study tests whether a newer type of blood thinner (direct oral anticoagulant, or DOA) works better than the standard older drug (vitamin K antagonist, or VKA) to dissolve blood clots inside the heart. About 340 adults with such clots will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see which drug more safely reduces the risk of death, stroke, and bleeding while helping the clot disappear.
