Can augmented reality coach better CPR than a human?

NCT ID NCT07778823

First seen Aug 21, 2026 ยท Last updated Aug 21, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether an augmented reality (AR) system can help healthcare providers deliver high-quality chest compressions during a simulated pediatric cardiac arrest. Participants, who are nurses or technicians with pediatric life support certification, will perform CPR for 18 minutes while receiving real-time visual feedback from the AR-CPR device or coaching from a human instructor. The study aims to see if the AR system is at least as good as human coaching in helping providers meet guideline targets for compression rate and depth.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
AR-CPR, an augmented reality feedback system that provides real-time visual guidance on chest compression rate, depth, and recoil during CPR
What this could lead to
If effective, this could offer a scalable, consistent way to improve CPR quality during pediatric cardiac arrests, potentially saving more lives.
What could go wrong
This is a simulation-based study, so results may not translate directly to real-world emergencies. The technology may also be less effective than human coaching or could have technical issues.
