Stroke study to settle anesthesia debate: sleep or sedate?

NCT ID NCT07235514

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at 958 people having a severe stroke to find out if general anesthesia (being fully asleep) or procedural sedation (being drowsy but breathing on your own) leads to better recovery after a procedure to remove a blood clot from the brain. Participants will be randomly assigned to one type of anesthesia and followed for 3 months to see how independent they are in daily life. The goal is to improve stroke care and outcomes.
