Can a lower drug dose keep your heart beating steady with fewer side effects?

NCT ID NCT07273994

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a lower daily dose of the heart medication amiodarone can keep the heart in a normal rhythm as well as the standard dose, but with fewer side effects. About 312 adults with persistent atrial fibrillation who have had a successful electrical shock to restore normal rhythm will take part. After one month on the standard dose, half will switch to a lower dose, and both groups will be followed for a year to compare how well the rhythm is maintained and any side effects.
