Exercise may be a Drug-Free way to tame migraines
NCT ID NCT06716489
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at whether a supervised aerobic exercise program, combined with a single session of pain education, can reduce migraine-related disability and improve sensory and muscle function. One hundred women with migraine will either exercise on a treadmill three times a week for 16 weeks or receive standard physical activity advice. The goal is to find a safe, accessible, non-drug treatment for migraine.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
supervised aerobic exercise plus pain neuroscience education
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a low-cost, non-drug option to help manage migraine symptoms and reduce headache-related disability.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 100 participants. The exercise program is time-intensive (3 times/week for 16 weeks), and results may not apply to all migraine sufferers.
