Smarter radiation: new study aims to cut lung cancer treatment side effects

NCT ID NCT04751747

First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study tests a smarter way to give radiation to people with lung cancer. Normally, the radiation plan is made before treatment starts, but tumors can shrink during treatment, which may expose healthy tissue to unnecessary radiation. In this study, the radiation plan is updated at set times to better target the tumor and spare healthy organs. The goal is to see if this approach reduces side effects like lung inflammation (pneumonitis) in 34 patients receiving radiation plus immunotherapy.
